Clew Bay

We left Mayo on Friday by train, and in Dublin we joined some friends for dinner. Our flight was early the next morning. About a  week after we returned  home, we went online and reserved the house for the first two weeks of next August.

Fuschia

This day was very wet and windy, so we set out for the Museum of Country Life which is located just around Castlebar, not very far away. I suppose one would expect pictures of the displays in the museum, but I was completely taken with the greenhouse where I found this fuschia.

Clare Island

We cannot go to Mayo without a day on Clare Island. The ferry leaves in the morning from Roonagh, a pier on the far side of Louisburgh. This year we decided to walk to the north east corner of the island where we would picnic by the lighthouse. On our way to the lighthouse, we passed one field with the abandoned cart pictured here. We found  the name scrawled on the side of interest. In the very next field, I DO NOT LIE, we were  greeted by this donkey, all of which we took to be an  ominous  sign of what is in the future for the present administration and the democratic  party.

Bookie on Holiday!

Must have been a good vacation, as I cannot recall at all what we did on Monday……but this picture has surfaced, and from the looks of it, Monday must have been a good day!

Louisburgh Sunset

If you go to the end of our road,  you would turn left for Westport. But if you turn right, in about ten minutes you will be in Louisburgh, the last village before  the Atlantic Ocean. From the beach in Louisburgh, you can see the most spectacular sunsets, as we did on Sunday evening.

Leenane, Connemara

On Saturday we drove south through Connemara, stopping at Leenane for a morning coffee.  I had not been through Connemara in a while, and was once again stunned by her raw beauty. We continued south to Tuam, where we visited a friend as well as the  cottage my father had rented upon my first visit to Ireland in 1965.
